Copyright protection is absolutely central to our business and we remain committed to doing all we can to support and maintain your intellectual property rights. We've been working closely with Google to improve the way in which the images are presented in Google Drive. Our agreement with Google allows for the images to be made available to Google users for personal or commercial use--however, the individual user's rights are restricted, and clarifications addressing use are now live in the Google Drive’s interface.

Google Drive copy changes:

1. Now when you search for an image to insert into a document in Google Drive, the following language appears directly under the search field for visibility:

"Results shown are available for personal or commercial use only in Google Drive, and may not be independently redistributed or sold. Learn more."

2. You will see the revised language (below) when you click on "Learn More."

"Stock images available in Google Drive are available for personal or commercial use only in Google Drive and must be used in accordance with our program policies. Images may not be offered for sale or used within templates provided to third parties. If you use stock images depicting a person in connection with a sensitive or unflattering subject, you must include this or a similar statement: "for illustrative purposes only; individual is a model."

The Program Policies link takes you to a page restricting pornographic or otherwise unlawful uses, etc., describing these restrictions in detail.

Still Pending: image metadata is in the process of being included.

We truly appreciate your patience in waiting for these changes to be implemented. We will post another update when all is complete.

Thank you for this. I appreciate the changes going in the right direction.

I still would like to kindly ask for opt out of similar future deals if possible. Thank you.

Sorry but it's the "commercial use" I will always have trouble with on this deal!

I really appreciate the update and that progress is being made. I also appreciate that the metadata issue was specifically mentioned and that you are working on it.

But what about the basic problem? That files are being made available to 425 million people for 12 dollars and that we have no influence over which file will be chosen in the future.

Any progress on that dilemma?

I will gladly volunteer files for such extreme deals, i just want to be able to choose which ones.

I really would like to upload normal content again to istock, between Google/getty and BM the waiting is so frustrating.

I look forward to more news.

this whole thing seems like an honour box system, have the lawyers been let go?

"Here, have this work for free, and we're trusting you to do the right thing."

I think it's the $12 payment that was the bigger insult, which probably needs to be addressed rather than metadata and safety clauses. The Opt Out option is probably the only way to make people happy, if Google aren't going to pay a reasonable amount for the work.

Is iStock going to assemble a lightbox containing all the Google Drive images?  Please?

I agree with the above posts and am still very disatisfied with the Google drive situation. In all of this I don't think I have heard anything from iStock to indicate why they believe this is a good deal for us contributors. Perhaps I missed it, if so please could it be repeated.

An Option for contributors to OPT IN or OUT is important.  Why can't we have this option?

I would like an opt out for future sales to Google and other similar deals. I appreciate the updated language, but still want the ability to limit mass downloading of my images without adequate compensation.

It's obvious now Getty have absolutely no intention of significantly changing, yet alone reversing, this deal. And it will continue.

They think tweaking a few legal clauses will somehow restore trust and confidence. But it won't.

I'm not prepared to have my premium work given away for free at Google, and subsequently devalued at Getty and on iStock for a lousy on-time payment of $12. And quite frankly, I'm utterly shocked iStock are happy to see revenue from their premium VETTA collection (their industry-changing, golden-child) potentially fizzle and evaporate along with the trust of their loyaly contributors.

It would be a simple thing to do, and it has been requested many times.  I don't remember seeing so many requests for a slight change to some small print.

The fact that this, and repeated requests for an opt-out to special contracts which are customised for major clients, but invisible to the people whose copyrighted work is being sold, have been totally ignored, speaks volumes about just how much of a h*ck iStock/Getty truly give about the concerns raised here and elsewhere.

$12 royalty for the useage we're seeing on Google Drive is a disgrace, and IMO iStock/Getty should be doing absolutely everything within their combined powers to remedy it, and to come up with ways to reassure contributors that they know what they're doing, and a mess like this won't happen again.

Will we be informed before it happens with an option to opt out or close our accounts or will it be after the fact?

And if the images come from a PP will independents be paid just 15% of the deal? Presumably even less than the $12 most people recieved?

At the moment Getty is not adding to Google Drive, Great. Why can't we get an answer to why contributors can NOT Opt-Out of this deal? (at least give us this option from this point going forward).

I'm sure there would be enough contributors that would Opt-In to satisfy Google drives library.
