hello istockers,

it's been a bit silent around StatsPrime lately, but that's because i've been pretty busy developing its sequel:

forum
Pomato is based on StatsPrime, so some of the basics (runs on pc & mac, none of your data leaves your computer) stay the same. also, all the features that were there in SP are still there:

  • stats (royalties, downloads, uploads, RPI; sales distribution by collection, file type, file size, file age)
  • RC tracking
  • top selling files, top selling folders
  • lightbox management (adding and removing files; creating, deleting and editing lightboxes)

in addition, there are lots of changes and improvements. here are some of them:

  • General improvements

    • better performance, loading times and UI
    • all tables are customizable (right click the table header and select which columns to show)
    • all tables can be exported as CSV

  • New payment model:

    • software can now be rented instead of purchased
    • referral program lets you earn free usage privileges

  • Lots of new stats:

    • analyze single files, lightboxes, keywords or use customizable filters
    • compare a timeframe's performance to the previous month and/or year
    • keep track of shoots' production cost
    • full reporting for folders and keywords
    • BME and last-month-analysis you can directly paste into the monthly sales thread

  • Automatic keyword optimization

    • automatic analysis of your files' optical features and existing keywords
    • suggestion and upload (if desired) of the following keywords:
photo / video / illustration (based on file type)
horizontal / vertical / square (based on file aspect ratio)
      editorial
      copy space
      color image
      monochrome
      black and white
      isolated
isolated on black / on white
      black / white background
      nobody
      man / woman
      young men / women
      male / female
      only men / women
      senior men / women
      only senior men / women
      only young men / women
      business person

more info and download: http://www.pomato.de

notes for StatsPrime users:

  • StatsPrime will continue to receive patches and maintenance releases, but is no longer available for purchase
  • Installing Pomato is completely independent of any StatsPrime installations you might have. You may (but don't have to) uninstall StatsPrime before installing Pomato.
  • Pomato will import your folders from StatsPrime, but will not import your sales and keywords. This means you'll have to do a clean fetch, but you won't have to recreate your folders.
  • If you want to completely remove StatsPrime from your system, run the uninstaller in the Start menu (or remove the app from your Applications folder, if you're on a Mac), then manually delete StatsPrime's database file (located in: My Documents/NullplusSoftware/statsplus.db3 on Windows and user_home_folder/NullplusSoftware/statsplus.db3 on Mac OS)

Am I the only one who is worried about this monetization of iStockers?

I can't help but feel it adds to the idea that we're here to be milked for as much money as possible and affects the tone of the relationship within the community.

I may be overreacting as usual, so apologies in advance to those who think I'm an idiot.

^ I suppose it's a personal choice. Pomato is an offering, no one has to buy, and it looks as if it is the product of a lot of hard work and has some useful features.

As things stand now, it's a bit rich for me. And, of course, we have all been spoiled by Franky's fantastic efforts with DeepMeta, available for free. That guy is owed so many pints of Belgian beer.

You're right of course.

I certainly don't expect people to work for free, but I do wonder if with the implicit official approval these paid for applications have by appearing so prominently in the forums they give the sense that the artists here are fair game.

Maybe I've just had my ideas skewed by examples like DeepMeta and I should stop being so naive.

I don't see anything wrong with products like the Pomato which would be useful to many of us beeing offered here, I might otherwise miss them compleately. I am going to try it out and most likely buy it, very curious about the keyword feature which might save me much work going through old files - not beeing an native English speaker I do struggle with my keywords.

The concreate guy is certainly something very different and he should be banned from participating in the forums.

DeepMeta is an increadible gift to us, not only a wonderful tool but also almost instant support if there are bugs or questions.

If someone develops a program that can be of benefit to iStockers, would you rather we ban them from posting about it in the forums if they want paying for their work? Do you think we should only allow people to post about free tools and apps? Which apps do you think shouldn't be allowed to be posted?

If anyone has any thoughts on these wider issues, please feel free to sitemail me. I'd prefer not to take this thread further off topic.

Thanks.

^ thanks

some small clarification on the keyword optimizer:

when you select more than one file from the list, the list in the upper right will show you all keywords which have been suggeted for those files (with the option to remove suggested keywords). however, when you actually upload the keyword, each file will receive only those keywords which were suggested for it.

(example: for one file you get the suggestion "male", for the second file you get "female". if you select both of them, the upper right list will show both "male" and "female". when you click upload, for the first file the app will only add "male", for the second one only "female" - just as suggested). there are no side-effects caused by your selection.

the notorious "day zero" patch - we haz it!

there was an issue in v1.0.0 which sometimes affected data importing from statsprime and lead to some inconsistencies with the keywords. so here comes v1.0.1 which fixes this -> www.pomato.de

for users who have already switched from SP to pomato using v1.0.0: please check the "keyword optimization" module to see if you have any files with 0 keywords. if you do, please do a clean fetch. sorry for that.

As an owner of original StatsPrime 1.0 I fee this sequel is literally StatsPrime 1.5 and upgrade price of 69USD looks to me as a rip-off. Very-very disappointed.

-> v1.0.2

...one more early patch for a problem with keywords download. Unless you have files with zero keywords (you can see this in the Keyword Optimization module), you were not affected by this bug so you can skip this update.

v1.0.3 - this one will be a mandatory update and fixes a bug which could occur if the connection to the istock site was lost during keywords upload.

Thanks for the Pomato, I'm a owner of StatsPrime as well and the upgrade price looks heavy to me as well and I can't update the KWs with the last version from 26th. Error Updating File Info for all files.

slobo: i would guess this is because you're trying to run the "allow 8GB ram" version with a 32bit version of java (which can accomodate only up to 1GB of ram). you can either run the "allow 1GB ram" (should be enough to handle a port with 5k files), or download & install a 64bit jvm from java.com

(ETA1: added the above to the "notes & troubleshooting" section on the website)

studioxil: "Error Updating File Info for all files" - do you have any more info on this? what error occurs exactly? does the data fetch go through ok, but you're missing kws for some files? or does the data fetch not complete at all? you can try doing a full clean fetch, or go to the kw optimization, select the files with zero kws from the list, right-click -> refetch sales & keywords (this is like a "selective" clean fetch)

ETA2:

> owner of StatsPrime as well and the upgrade price looks heavy to me

well... then why not have a small "early adopter sale" for upgraders? i lowered the price a bit, but i can tell you it will go back to what it originally was sooner or later (maybe mid-april or so).

i knew you'd ask

as my previous post says: we already have an "early adopter sale" for upgraders (it's now 49 instead of 69). so even IF there should be an additional "easter sale", that will only affect the non-upgrade prices.
