I have been a little quite on this event the past couple of weeks.  I am busy running the Yellowstone Alien Cowboys Stampede  right now.  It will be over Sunday and I will jump in the jeep next Tuesday morning (July 2nd) and start sharing with everyone on this shoot what is happening.    It is going to be fun!    . . . and a little hot I am afraid.  Lots of water, gatoraide and wild stuff to shoot!  Yes!!

Is there still room for one more? You might have one more I so. I'm a maybe. I'd love to but haven't ironed out my summer schedule yet. My teenaged daughter has a job interview next week and after that I'll have a better idea what the plan is. Plus, I'll get to see how painful the drive from seattle is as I'm coming to the roundup as a social. I'd love to say for sure that I'm in but I just can't right now. Fingers crossed.

OK, Finally booked my Filghts. Since I was able to use points it was the same number of points for Salt Lake City or Idaho falls, so I'll be arriving in Idaho Falls late Thursday night.  So I've got Friday to look around..........what's good to see in the area?

Great Idea, my first thought was that this would be great but my wife will be coming with me and maybe my daughter. That's not a problem except we are planning on spending about 3 days afterward poking around and slowly making our way home. So sharing a trip there would probably work I doubt it will for the way back. When I get my plans a little firmer I'll let you know.

I'm thinking about renting a wide angle lens for my 5D3 to bring along. Anybody care to weigh in on the 16-35 vs 17-40 debate?

I've been thinking about a wide for my 5Diii too. Except I'm now thinking about the 14mm/2.8 prime instead of the wide zoom. Unfortunately that doesn't help you make your decision.

I'm actually looking at the 14mm, too. I'm looking at lensrentals.com. A 4 day rental is $70 + $25 shipping. The reviews I've seen on the 14mm have been outstanding.

We are probably booked on the same flight out of Detroit.  I am also arriving late Thursday night.

I'm not sure how these things go, and I'm only slightly aware of what to expect, so please pardon my ignorance here. Are we each using our own lighting, or are we all pitching in what we've got and sharing? Again, this is really my first real serious meetup, so if the rules are that you bring and use only your own stuff, then I am way cool with that.

If we are sharing, we should put together a list of gear that will be coming, no? I'm all for sharing, if that's the way it goes. I will be bringing two Alien Bees lights (AB800 and AB400), 22" beauty dish with sock, softbox/umbrella setup, and medium sized silver/gold collapse reflector. The AB400 might be useless in that environment, but we'll see. Plus, I've got a few optional props which may or may not pan out. The ubiquitous gas mask, awesome steampunk men's jacket, an amazing steampunk vintage felt bowler, plus whatever else I can scare out of my props closet. I also have a .357 magnum carry pistol (very similar to the detective special) which photographs very well--not sure what everyone's thought are on me bringing that; just let me know. Obviously, it will be unloaded in case anybody is wondering. Again, I'm totally cool with sharing anything I bring.

Also, I will be driving a full sized pickup truck with canopy and full backseat, so I will be able to help haul people and/or gear.

Okay, cool. I rented the 14mm for the weekend, so you can try that one out.
