We're happy to announce a big change to the community. Effective tomorrow, we are removing upload limits for photo contributors across the board, as has recently happened for Illustrators. The reality is we will just raise the upload limit to 999 files per member per week. It's the quickest way to get around a load of developer time.

This means all members, at all canister levels can upload as many photos or illustrations as they want, whenever they want. It's a great thing for all, especially those who are new to the site or at lower canister levels and desperately trying to build their portfolios.

Naturally, you're probably wondering if these upload increases will also mean an increase in inspection times. We don't foresee any significant increase in queue wait times – in fact, we've been ramping up and training new members of the team in preparation for these changes. If you've noticed a decrease in inspection times recently, this is why.

Additionally, we've also relaxed some of our technical requirements for photos which will help reduce the number of outright rejections for small issues that don't compromise the composition nor limit the usefulness of the file. Emphasis will be placed on the overall beauty and composition of file. As always, poorly composed or lit images, snapshots, and serial duplicates will be rejected and dealt with appropriately.

Before you ask let us assure you we have additional plans to include Video and and Audio later in May.

Happy uploading!

Can we be let in on the reason for this change? There are obvious disadvantages.

Name a few. Let's discuss the obvious.

Lobo, I'll take that as a hint not to spoil the party and just go away.

Good news I guess. Let's hope this particular change gets filtered down properly. Recent experiences suggest otherwise.

Or you can take it as a request for you to elaborate on what you think are obvious disadvantages.

Why would we remove upload limits for everyone if that was our plan?

I have a hard time keeping up with 60 a week--can't imagine loading 999!!

However, I am anxious to try.

Although it won't affect me personally as I never get anywhere near filling my 150 slots anyway, it will be wonderful news for those who had lower limits. Enjoy!

Okay. It's a quantity over quality strategy. Contributors will be tempted to upload things they otherwise wouldn't have (especially when combined with easier inspections).

Larger database of poorly keyworded files (are there plans to stop the spammers?)

Greater costs for iStock with the larger  inspection team for no increase in quality.

At an average of about 10 useful images per shoot, how many single shooters can produce anything near 100 concepts per week?

With everyone shooting images with phones and uploading billions of images, why go for the quantity thing?
