Ok thanks for deleting my post. I will try to be more precise, so my quesion is:

Can it be that what's good for photos is not so good for audios (if talking about BM)?
Is the BM the same for overall search (for photos, videos, audio etc.)?

It really depends on what you mean. If people are looking for Audio then they will probably limit their searches to only include Audio. Are you finding the BM for Audio related searches to be lacking in relevancy?

Well that's not so easy to talk about relevancy in audio What's happy for me, is not nescessary happy for you.. Motivational pop rock (let's say hopeful) can sound happy as well to somebody (while happy pop ukulele based songs are way more happier for me).

I didn't want to complain about about relevancy of BM in audio.. I was just curious if those BM tweaks should affect audio search in the same way as in photos search.

It has gotten even worse since last BM "Tweak":

Of my last 50 downloads (evening of April 22nd to morning of 26th, editorial and photo+ excluded) were

3 from 2013 (2 first downloads)

2 from 2012

4 from 2011

13 from 2010

15 from 2009

9 from 2008

4 from 2007

38.5% of my portfolio is from 2011 to 2013, but only 18% of sales are from that period.

Average downloaded file age still more than 3 years (back when 12.7 MP was the largest file size I submitted)

A few days after the initial change to Best Match (described above), we will begin to adjust the thresholds that regulate how a new image performs. The idea will be to find the ‘perfect balance’ so that only proven images show up on the first few pages of results, but it is easier for an image to prove itself and make it to the top pages. We will find this balance gradually, by making a change and watching the impact of the change on customers.

Thanks for your patience as we move towards the right balance of ‘relevant and fresh’.

I know the adjustments aren't finished yet, but I noticed that a new illustration of mine (#23985748, approved two days ago) started on page 9 of 21 (200 images/page) when I search for the most relevant keyword "pig".
I don't expect new images to start on the first two or three pages, but I think its quite hard to prove themselves starting from position ~1650.

New files still don't seem to have much of a chance and there are still a lot of old files (2007, 2008, etc.) that don't have a lot of dls at the top of BM.  Most of my sales are of files from before 2013.

I'm seeing a good mix of older and newer files selling.  What's most important is that the improvements to the search seem to be gradually resulting in an improvement in overall sales, and that's good news.

What we need is a period of stability with gradually improving search and site functions so that buying customers regain confidence in istock, and that appears to be happening.

Good job searchfairy.

I just searched (Best Match) Pensive Businesswoman. The first page (200) is packed with images by one contributor from the same photo session. If I were a buyer, I would find this extremely annoying.

Just tried Worried Businesswoman, same thing. Tons of images from the same photographer and from the same photo session.

"Pensive" isn't a keyword I would necessarily have used to describe MOST of the images of that model.

Wow, I never realised how bad things were. Does anyone know why/when the powers that be decided to ditch the BM rule that only allowed 5 images per contributor per page? Of course the question remains as to whether 5 photos from that series should be there at all, but anyway...

To be expected if you demand that new files be given a boost, and simultaneously a contributor uploads a long series of similars from the same photoshoot. Rather than telling the IT team to apply more sticking plasters, why not solve the underlying issue of 'similars'.

The new BM is really bad. It is a step in the wrong direction. Still no chance for new files.

Try keywords like "London", "New York", "Berlin" ...

My take is that they should push new files that sell 1-9 times way more than brand new files with 0 downloads (especially now that people can upload hundreds of shots from the same shoot at once). That would take care of long series squatting together page 2-3 and enable photos that sell to take off. Early sales right now are like a parachute instead of being a rocket boost.

Worst of all, the second and third file are 6-7 years old...

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but:

I've scanned over this thread and there are comments about people not uploading while the BM is being scrutinised.

Should be hold off on uploading new files? I've 5 pages (in my uploads) of new files with <10 views.

Just looking for some official advice on this (other than it being purely my choice to do so or not).

I'm continuing to upload as there is no way of knowing if there will ever be an 'improvement'.  It's been this way for quite awhile and in spite of it new files are selling, just not the way they used to....may be the new normal, no way of knowing.

I wouldn't expect 'official advice' on whether or not you/we should upload....as you so well put it, your choice to do so or not.
