Is the slowness related to the video thumbs not playing?
Posted Thu Sep 26, 2013 12:54PM
I am in North America and the speed of the site has been bad all day. This has been one of the slowest days and has been since 6:00 AM MST.

I try to upload in the middle of the night. It's messing up my sleep but it's less frustrating than waiting forever for pages to load during the New York afternoons.
The slow site is causing me to smoke more too. I get a page taking forever to load so I light up to pass the time. I know, that's so bad for me. I need to learn to get up and stretch or clean my desk a little while waiting for the page to load.

I'm not sure where you are getting that 'initial response' from but we actually rely on the community and their participation in the forums more than you might think.

As previously explained, we are aware that some people have reported slower site speeds. Not everyone is affected in the same way or to the same degree though. We already have people working at HQ to improve the site's performance. However, if anyone is persistently troubled by slow page loads, then it is recommended that they open a support ticket. This helps iStock to address specific concerns. It provides iStock with more detailed data to analyse. It also increases the chance of the reported issues being diagnosed and addressed more quickly.
If anyone doesn't want to help or doesn't want to open a support ticket, that's absolutely fine. But please realise that simply reporting this issue in the forums, without the necessary details, is not likely to help things get better, nor does it command as much attention as a support ticket does. Raising support tickets raises the priority any issue is likely to be given. If this is an issue you believe should be addressed with greater priority, then raising a support ticket can only increase the priority that HQ attach to remedying it.

The first few pages of this forum were a back and forth regarding entering tickets rather than using the forums. To me, the forums seem like a much more efficient and transparent way to collect this info, request confirmation from other members, and to alert other members that this is a site issue not just their connection. Support tickets seem like a black hole. But that's just my $0.02.

@Beklaus: I guess you didn't quite understand the point in Kelvinjays post. However, you have posted it so maybe you can take another look at it. There isn't any indication that we aren't interested in having people report issues in the forums. In fact, we made it clear that it would be even more helpful if you could provide more information.
I see now you are focused on how Support is a black hole too. Well I can assure you they are receiving and responding to every ticket on the matter. The reality is the tickets we have received have at least provided us with a time stamp and a location of the contributor who is sending the tickets. So it does help us track when certain areas are hit hardest.
We appreciate your $0.02. The more information we receive the better.

What we are seeing is that the site issues typically occur during peak North American hours. Which is clearly when we see the majority of our traffic. We are working on solutions as quickly as we can.
Crawl to Getty HQ with cap in hand and beg them to spend more money on extra bandwidth.

Sorry people, with all due respect: when do you think this problem will be solved? Any buyer in his right mind will change to a competitor site after two searches as things are now. We have been begging you to take appropriate steps two months ago. Once again you just ignored us. I wonder if you will ever listen to that big crowd that gives you valuable feedback every single day. Other companies would be happy to get that opportunity. We are no nuisance - all we want is a healthy site with many sales - and I guess that´s what you are after too.

Painfully slow. I've started using alternative most of the time as the delays in searches, page loads, preview image loads, everything, seriously reduce my productivity. It's the biggest single bottleneck in production for me. I've tried different machines, every browser under the sun, cleared caches and history, the lot. All just as slow, it's definitely a server issue. I have previously emailed to query this and never received a reply. I'm going to raise a support ticket now...

I hope the slowness of this site only affects contributors like me and not buyers.

There are two different issues covered in this thread. The first was of a limited number of people who reported slow site speed and performance issues, even when the site seemed to be running fine for most everybody else. The second is more recent and that is basically site performance issues that are affecting everyone. We have a lot of people trying to improve this situation but extra tickets are probably not needed at this stage.

it's up and running but not much faster...

Still slow here, especially when working within my uploads.

I'm 3,000 miles from home, and the site is still sloooooow. The hardware upgrade seems to have been for something other than speed.
Posted Mon Oct 7, 2013 12:43AM
Yes the hardware update has not affected speed, at least not where I am. Still very slow.

Slow here too - Italy. Also, the enlarging option to check out images is in certain cases not working ok.

My largest client (a major US ulitlities company) took iStock off the list of photo suppliers that I can pick from for their projects. Reason? Speed of site.
