/Hi,

I've looked at all the documentation I could find (except the entirety of a HUGE thread) ... when rejected, but able to resubmit ... is there a way to handle the resubmission through IM ? Thanks !

BTW ... I love this software ! It's a real life saver, ty ! I plan on upgrading to Pro next month ... not for the features, just to support. Thanks !

OK, I'm upgrading to pro right now ... I tried uploading today, and all I get is 0% to 100% over and over again, endlessly .... restarted, checked connection, no joy ... hope pro fixes me up ... Thanks !

Grrr, still no luck ... downloaded and extracted pro, downloaded my image info from IS to ensure my connection was good, then tried 1 upload ... which cycled through 7 times and started on the eighth before I canceled ... Please Help ! I'm running winXP, sp 2 Java dialog says version 1.5.0_01-b08. Any help you can provide would be wonderfully appreciated ! Thanks !

Could you please send me the log files. Details on where the log files are etc. can be found here.

As for resubmissions of images that were rejected, you will have to add the image again as a new image as the large version of the image is not maintained in the ImageManager to save space. Once you have added it again to IM, just copy all details from the rejected image (right - click on one of the textfields in the images details and choose "copy all from ...").

Help! I can't add categories to my images. An error message pops up stating "Update of categories has failed ...". I just downloaded the newest (non-pro) version (v0.5.0) of IM for Mac. It's great that the "black thumbnail" issue has been fixed and adding new images is faster. Thanks for that! Is there anything that I need to do to fix the categories issue or is it a glitch that needs to be worked out on iStock's end?

Thanks!

OK, I just realized that my image window wasn't opened largely enough so I couldn't see the "edit categories" button. I see it now, so "updating categories" seems a moot point now. Thanks!

I'm baaaaack! The categories worked, phew! Now I'm getting an error message when I try to upload the images (only 20 of them) that states "Could not retrieve server information ...". Is this temporary or something more? Thanks again!

Ha ha ha! You'll love hearing this! ... I restarted IM and it could retrieve the server info. Yay! But DOH! I forgot that I had already met my weekly upload limit of 30! I'll just have to wait now.

OK, redirected from the forums:

I have been using Image Manager for uploads. Have not uploaded for a while, so an upgrade was necessary. I have deleted all Image Manager files, at least I think so.

Under Upload there is a Batch Upload Guide with a link to the Image Manager. When trying to install this (version 0.3.1 I think) all I get is an error message (not able to connect...) and the box will not go away, still trying to install.

Then I went to the forums to check, and there I found there is a newer version (5.0?). Is this the one I should install? Why is not that one mentioned under Batch Upload Guide? It should not be necessary to search the forums before downloading and installing the Image Manager.

Secon question - are there more files I need to remove, other than those in the folder where I had the Image manager files? Files with other names than Image Manager?

Third question - don't know if this is relevant to the 5.0 version, but still. The guide says "click on the Image Manager.exe to install" But there are three different .exe files - Image Manager512, Image Manager1024 and Image Manager. Which one?

---------------

Since I wrote the above I have installed the 0.5.0 version. It is there, I can upload images to it and I can add name, description etc and save it.

BUT, I still get the error message "Cannot connect to iStock...."

Is that a temporary glitch somewhere, or have I done something wrong?

Thank you.

You will have to check the following things:

a) can you connect to iStockphoto in your browser when getting that error message?
b) if yes, do you have a firewall that could be blocking the ImageManager?
c) if there is a firewall make sure you allow any java.exe or javaw.exe processes to access the internet

Try that and if that does not fix your problem, send me the log files. Check the "How to submit bugs ..." link on the first post in this thread on instructions on where to find the log files.

Please be patient. You need to remember that you are dealing with artist, photographers, and not IT folks. We need extra help in the IT areas.

I clicked on the update button at the top of the IM page to update my version 3 to a 5. It said it downloaded about 4 files, now I don't know what the new file icon should look like. I still have only the first 3 I had to begin with. The one I've been using is # 1024. It still comes up as version 3. How do I find the version 5?

Also, will version 5 fix the problem of the description box missing. Mine is mission on the images where the larger image is shown.

Thanks for your patience.

Several things here ... it is not possible to update from version 0.3 to the newest version. I know that is not documented anywhere, I will be adding that. So you will have to get the full version.

The versions are always one file, a zip file that contains a number of files. OIn a new install, just delete your previous version and unzip the new files, on an update replace the existing files with the new ones from the update (if the update is possible).

For your problem with the description box that is missing, just make the window containing that description textfield a bit bigger and you will see the description field again.

Thanks for your reply.

The window for the description does not exist on the vertical images only. It is there on the horizontal images. There is no place for me to make any field bigger. The entire box is as large as it will go.

I will try downloading the version 5. I love the IM program.

Send me a screenshot to imagemanager (at) lauchenauer.info and I will show you how to make the window bigger.
Posted Thu Jun 22, 2006 1:29PM

Forgive me but I don't know how to send you a screen shot.

There is plenty of room between the Edit Categories and the HTML button for the description box, about 3 inches, but there is no box.

For the Screen shot, if you are using a standard keyboard, find the print key and that is where it would be, where there is something abbreviated for screen shot underneath. Usually they are 3 keys altogether: pause, print & insert i think. (i really am not sure about the proper wording because i am using a german keyboard on a laptop but i hope that i am right.)

after you have pressed the print button, you can open photoshop or other editing applications and paste the screen shot there.

If you can't figure out how to get a screenshot through your computer, use your camera . There may seem to be enough space, but some components need a specific space and if they have less than that space available, it will not show the component. The thing you have to try is find the way to resize that window, that will display the textfield. I only need the screenshot if you can't figure out how to resize the window.

Last year the IM was very helpful for me but from one version to the other the IM becomes more difficult to work with.

I have to expand all windows to a viewable size then click here and there, expand here and there again, scroll here and there... it's not the fun it was in earlier versions. Sorry, but for me the "native" iStock Upload is easier to work with. IM is only useful as a second-window-clipboard to copy some text to the iStock editor.

It would be a big improvement if the IM will be able to store my window sizes and some other things so I don't have to scale all things to my favourite on every new start.

It's not the amount of functions, it's the "how to deal with it" I miss in the basic version. Does the Pro version do a better work except "being faster"? Does the Pro version allow "copying all description elements from one picture to the new picture" for uploading series?
Posted Fri Jun 23, 2006 2:27AM

Several things here .... to save your window positions and sizes use the View-> Save Workspace menu item and choose to save it to the default workspce. That feature has been in there since almost the beginning.

Then the copying f all description elements is available in both Pro and Basic, open the image details window of the image you want to copy the details to, and do a right click on a text field. Choose "copy all from ...", also a feature that has been in there for a long time.

Also, i will be placing links to the two help files I have on IM in the first post of this thread in a minute, so check those as well.

Once you have checked those things, do let me know what problems you encounter (check the "how to submit problems links" though) and if you see improvements that can be made, let me know as well.

Seems all hidden to me, that's what I mean: too much clickerydoo. But with respect to your work: I'll spent some more time in investigating the IM.
Posted Sun Jun 25, 2006 11:23PM
Well, if you have any specific suggestions on how to improve all this "clickerydoo", please do let me know and I will take it into account.

i've just been trting this for a ashort while, had good initial success, but more recently cannot upload, i get an error message "needs to be in rgb, not cmyk", altho the files are in rgb, are jpg's and will upload fine directly to IS. any clue??
Posted Mon Jun 26, 2006 7:45PM

Can you send me one of the files so I can test this ... that error does not come from the ImageManager itself, but is returned from the iStock page to the IM, so it is a bit strange that you can upload the same image through the website without any problems.

As mentioned above, if you could send me one of the files that are failing so I can try out a few things here, that would be the easiest for me. Send it to imagemanager (at) lauchenauer.info
