I Accept your challenge and will post the first blow!

I accept your challenge, will you be the crouching tiger or the hidden dragon?

I will take the liberty of striking first, and thank you for being honorable and issuing this challenge, domo origato*

Excuse my spellings as they are probably wrong!

Domo, is 'thanks' a friends way of saying thank you.

Arigato go-zai-mas, is 'Thank you very much' which will be appreciated by the older japanese folk

itchy -1
nee -2
san -3
she -4
go -5

Do-a-tashi-mash-ta, 'You are Most welcome'
Su-mi-ma-sen, 'Excuse me'
Go-men-a-sai, 'Sorry' (even Madonna says it in one of her latest tracks!)
and I think 'Do-zo' means something like 'Dig in' or 'go for it'.

anything else i forget!
Japanese people are great.

/Thanks PD-san, it's always nice to appreciate other languages

Jsheets: Thanks for your advice, I've already seen an improvement in my isolating. I took what you said "pixel by pixel" and tried it...long indeed, but it works!

Hi Zippy! yay, i have support!

you have heard of the 'Pen Tool' havn't you?
it can be tricky on smaller images like Steelcage sizes, so work on your original stock image sizes with the pentool, drawing paths around the thing you want to isolate, making sure to clip into the edges of your object by a few pixels, then you can use the pentool path to either mask off what you don't want (Make selection from Path) or just delete whats un-nessesary.

Soz if I'm telling you how to tie your shoe-laces here!

just another trick to add to that..you can create a mask using channels...zooming in really tight - and draw w/ a hard brush tool...holding shift key down connects and can be done pixel by pixel as well(great for curvy and detailed/complex shaped objects......then once you draw around the shape, fill it in(you can do either cut out the bg or the object to isolate up to you either way works fine...(make sure it's totally filled in because sometimes it can leave a "ring"....then you ctrl-click that channel...go back to your layer and then you can copy, cut, paste, or even create a path to save for later! Hope that makes sense....I just find it easier and more effective (for me personally) than using the pen tool to create paths right away.

*not telling you how to tie your shoes either of course, just adding in my 2cents hope you don't mind!

/wow, the pen tool does it much quicker and i can do beziers too...wow you guys are so helpful, I must say this has got to be one of the fastest pieces I've done in a while. Can you believe I'm done the first blow?

edit: I've never tried the channel one. For me, channels are a totally different monster, I never understood them. I will play around though, because I love to learn this stuff inside-out. Thanks

The Saga continues...

Jubei, our skilled swordsman, knows that to be the best, one must practice day and night. To hone our skills does not come easy. One must practice what you know daily, listen to those giving advice, and above all be at peace with yourself and others.

Yes sirree Bob ! and a very impressive blow too !! ...

*unfolds a little QT flag, and makes sure RF doesn't see it*

thanks guys

That's actually the Himeji Castle in Japan...the stone bridge is in the gardens of the main shrine in Kanazawa city, Japan. The bridge is about 500 years old...there's a hillside image of Kyoto to the left...they were all day shots, I had to convert to make it look like night...

Zippy, I knew you had a QT flag

I'm not such a meanie ... I'll support your battle.
although I generally harrass and support my ex-battlers in their battles. (ask dsyl, he's getting used to it). I've only had 3 so far, but dsyl and RF were the two that beat me up. LOL

Beautiful! I love the darkness.

As far as all the tips, keep them coming. I swear I have tried so many different isolation techniques and since I work on my laptop touchpad for editing (gasp) my way works well for me. Once I get better tools, I am sure the pen tool will be my choice. Thank you so much for sharing, it is always appreciated.

QT, as a second degree black belt, this is a cool concept. Now where to take it...
