I'm trying to get an answer on this one ... it is currently preventing me from uploading HDV footage.

Sony's HC1 camcorder records 1440x1080 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.333. That then works out to an effective frame size of 1920x1080.

If I want to upload full resolution clips, rather than send them in by post, I have to encode them as a QuickTime movie, with a Motion JPEG encoding. The problem is that QuickTime doesn't seem to recognise anything other than a square pixel ratio. The net result is that the HDV clip does not look as wide as it should do.

I've posted a question to the Adobe forum to see if it is a problem with Premiere Pro, as that is what I use to edit the HDV and create the full-res QT files, but the answer there is that QT doesn't expect anything other than square pixels.

I can, as part of the encoding process, get the QT movie made with square pixels and a frame size of 1920x1080, but should I or, more importantly, may I?

I really do not want to have to post my HDV clips. Can we please have a definitive answer on what iStock will accept?

Is anyone else working with HDV? What are your findings when you encode to QuickTime?

Thanks.

Yes. At least that is what I am doing. I import the HDV footage into Sony Vegas, into a project that is 1920x1080 with square pixels, and output the same.
