![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Wed Feb 7, 2007 6:31PM | The UK prices just take the piss. The US version is $199 and the UK version actually works out at $300 (£148 inc VAT)- why do we have to pay $100 more for the same thing? |
![]() Posted Wed Feb 7, 2007 8:11PM | Its the "you don't live in America' tax. The same thing in Australia is AUD315 for the download version, at current exchanges rates that's USD245.00. The receipt is from Adobe Systems in Dublin, Ireland. |

The US version is $199 and the UK version actually works out at $300 (£148 inc VAT)- why do we have to pay $100 more for the same thing? This is not true. The big mistake made by a lot of people in europe is to compare their 'with tax' to the USA 'without' tax price. The UK price before goverment tax (which Adobe don't get to keep) is £125, and not £148. The US price is $199 + TAX. While it is true that for some people it is possible to pay no sales tax (due to the way the USA laws work), that is their good luck and not our missfortune as such. I understand that 'theoretically' US citizens ARE supposed to declare good bought out of state and pay it to their own state - it almost never happens. Most US citizens don't even realise this is the case !!! As is turns out - I am VAT registered, so I will only pay £125 and not £148 So we are actually comparing £125 = $245 against $199 and not $300 against $199. Still not good I agree, but Adobe are going to do what every other company does when selling in to Europe - cover themselves against exchange rate fluctuations and cover the cost of running the extra office required to even get the and support the business. If you are not familiar with what it takes to do international business, some of the additional costs may not be so obvious to you. While I also hate to pay the extra costs (like £25 more it seems), I do at least understand why it is there. Kelvin - maybe we can discuss this over a pint in Leeds in a couple of weeks (Edited on 2007-02-09 16:11:19 by QShot) |
