in the comments section of another of those dove ads someone mentioned that the same company makes Axe, whose ads are notoriously and blatantly full of female objectification. i checked the company website and it is indeed true. interesting, and a little disheartening as to the company's true motives.

Making money ! If by being empowering on one hand and .... ummm, ojectifying (looking for an appropriate synonym, but couldn't do it ... need more coffee !) on the other hand they increase market share, I'm sure they have no issues with that.

Wow. I'd never seen that commercial, Anna. Thanks for posting. It brings up some interesting issues for us photogs, eh? For those of you who work with models on a regular basis, do you Photoshop reality out to that degree? How do you decide when to stop airbrushing, etc.? I'd like to start working with models next year, but I don't think I'd be comfortable with much "correction" or "perfection" beyond removing pimples and other blemishes, whitening teeth and eyes. That sort of thing. Elongating necks and making doe eyes? Hell no. That's just weird and sick. If a designer buys and image and wants to make those changes, I'd rather leave it to the designer.

The ad made me think of a lovely picture by Bruce of Brianna that's often on the iStock splash page. It's a close up portrait and it's wonderful. Only Brianna looks crazy airbrushed. Her skin glows and appears ethereal. It's super surreal. I'm sure this sort of post-processing look sells well for many photographers here and elsewhere, but the finished piece looks anything but natural. Your thoughts?

Funny, but my photoshop processing never goes that fast...  lol

Seriously though, that is a very interesting video to watch.  It does put a different spin on it when you start thinking about it though.

The company that owns Dove also owns Maxim Magazine.

Great ad, great cause, but it's a dog chasing its own tail.

I do photoshop  my models but I never do things like there. I rarely use Liquify (never on face) and my models are usually recognizible for their friends and parents   Never Elongating neck (maybe I should try?)

The last time this video was posted on the forums, I was inspired.  I figured I might as well prettify myself, so I took a shot at it--elongated my neck, gave myself great big eyes, trimmed some flubber from the cheeks, gave myself a cute little cupie doll mouth, and a pure porcelain complexion.  I think it was a vast improvement smile

ETA:  I forgot to mention I was coloring my hair at the time.

Is it just me or did everyone notice that the program they were using isn't actually Photoshop! Must be some expensive retouching software. Does anybody recognize what it is???

I am not sure what it is, but I'd love to test drive it though.
