Strange Royalty Amounts - Find answers here!

With the new pricing in effect, coupled with the fact that roylaties are now based on the original net cost of the credit(s) used, it seemed like a good time to update this frequently asked question about "strange" royalty payment amounts.

While there are still some old credits floating around that will result in the occasional 10 cent per credit royalty, it is the new royalty amounts that vary based on the price of the credit package that I expect will cause the most head scratching.

Maybe it is because he truly is a superhero (or maybe he just has too much free time), but emyerson has whipped up a handy little 2007 Royalty Figure-Outer that does a much better job of explaining things than I could ever do (thanks Ethan).

One important fact to keep in mind is that any combination of credits could potentially be used to download an image, and each credit could have a different net value and result in a royalty not found in the Royalty Figure-Outer. If I may borrow jester's example (since I've copied everything else he said):

For example, a small file downloaded from a non-exclusive using...

one 2004 credit with a 10 cent royalty + one 2007 credit purchased for $1.09 with a royalty of 22 cents = 32 cents royalty

Unrelated to the above, but on the theme of odd royalty amounts, if you should stumble upon an instance where you see a royalty of 0.00 it is the result of someone re-downloading the image after having just paid for it. Downloaders get 24 hours to re-download the file (without additional credit cost) in case there are any connectivity problems at that prevent them from a successful download the first time. Since all file downloads are tracked and recorded you will see the repeat download as a 0 royalty.

Yes, if old credits were used the royalty is the same (10 cents/credit used) for everyone.

Thanks for the thread, I was going crazy trying to figure out what happened ,  I just had one of this weird download: $ 0.55 for a 5credits images!

I'm not too keen on the new payout. All I know is, I'm getting less per image now than before. Something about that just doesn't thrill me.

I'm not sure you fully understand the effects of the price and credit changes. Have you checked out Ethan's Royalty Figure-Outer?

Just looking at your monthly stats I can see you've earned more in January (with a few hours to go) than you have since last August. Even though you only uploaded 12 images in all of 2006 (none since October) and your portfolio has largely yet to be disambiguated.

Thanks, Sylvanworks. I've re-examined my downloads, and I see that I am actually earning more, not less, per image. I don't know what I was looking at before, but I take back everything I said about getting less per image. Now I am happy.

From the first post:

Today I passed the 10.000 limit to gold and I noticed I am still being payed silver royalties. Probably it changes to gold royalties at the same time the icon color changes (I might have to wait a day or two). I just wonder if at that time the royalties for the images downloaded in the mean time will be changed as well. Does anybody know?

 

 

My understanding is those kinds of odd amounts were related to the recent royalty adjustment.

Please explain one thing ... the royalties demonstrated in the Figure-Outer do the BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD & DIAMOND royalties only apply to exclusives?
