Lots of speculation about Getty about to close on a deal to buy Jupitermedia for $450MM.

Given it is not a done deal may not be appropriate to add speculation to this but it is in the press and both stocks gaining on the news.

Hey everybody.
So, feel free to have a good, healthy discussion about this. Please be aware however that no iStock employees are able to chime in or comment about this subject. (I mean, I know I'm chiming in now, but... well, you know what I mean.)

Yeah, I had read that when it was posted on another forum. Very interesting news.

If the deal goes through I am wondering what will be the result for Jupiter's microstock company - if it will be absorbed into istock or continue as a separate entity. Even more interesting - would istock exclusives be able to contribute there....

WOW - If exclusives here get access to contribute to Jupiter in the same way the gold and diamond exlusives can contribute to Getty now, it will be one more in a long and growing list enticements for exclusivity!

I also think it would be awesome if iStock's exclusives could contribute to Jupiter's micro if a merger happens. For me it's my 3rd best micro site, iStock is #1 of course

One of the scariest things about exclusivity is that rejects can't be sent anywhere else. And although it is repeated, sometimes some do well elsewhere that don't sell here. Would be awesome to give exclusives a second venue with slightly different aesthetic preferences to diversify.

Jupiter has a bunch of crap brands, including shovelware sites like Ablestock and Photos.com which I've been forced to use over the years. Here's hoping Getty puts some of those brands out of their misery.

Haha, but maybe there's a buck to be made in it! Right now, if it isn't up to IS's standard or aesthetic, it either goes in the recycling bin (for exclusives) or to a competitor's site (for non-exclusives). If IS had a second tier site, they could send it there and still earn income from it without watering down their own brand.

Wish I had something to sell 'em.

I think the site you're talking about has already cannabalized itself. The last time I looked they had at least four "contributors" who were actualy congolerates. The skinny I got was that those congomerate users were the slow movers on their RM site.

It would be cool to see Getty gobble them up. The good stuff would be fresh competition and up the ante for everyone, and the rest of their stuff would give iStock the biggest dollar bin in the business.
