Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 8:08AM | Lucky you... That is a good thing, well, it could be the same buyer, but I think a good seller is a good seller, it could just be coincident, it is not that unusual. Now the trick is to get 500 of those.

Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 8:42AM | I get it all the time and it is odd. A photo that hasn't sold at all for months will often be downloaded twice in the same day, often within a couple of hours of each other. The really weird bit is that it's frequently the same size - so not a question of someone buying the XS and then the L versions or whatever.
So far my theories to explain it run like this: there's a big company somewhere that gives briefs to a couple of design agencies, which both use iStock and decide that this image is the one for them. Or, maybe a large agency has more than one designer hunting for stuff and buying duplicates - either way Thank you very much!

Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 8:47AM | I would like to know too
I've noticed the same thing too, images that don't get downloaded very often will suddenly have a bunch of downloads the same day. I don't think it's the same person though, because often they're the same size, sometimes 2-3 in a row. |

It has happen to me many times. Many times in a matter of minutes.
|
Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 8:58AM | It has happened to me fairly often on my most popular photos. Of course that makes sense - it is how they got to be popular
Just enjoy it. You are obviously doing something right! |
    Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 9:02AM | Never look a gift download in the...er...well, you know... |
Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 9:10AM | Yep! Ive noticed this all the time. It starts with a small and pretty soon a larger ( same image ) or vice-versa. Could be that the image is featured twice in the same broschure or whatever, half page or something and the smaller as a thumbnail etc. |
Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 9:20AM | It does happen quite frequently...I just wish they wouldn't dissappear from the "last download" list when it does. |
Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 9:27AM | it has happen to me several times - |
      Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 9:43AM |
When it happens to me, I like to think theres a designer out there who has downloaded a file of mine and thinks, "wow! this file is so amazing, I think I'll buy it a second time!"
At least, that's what I would think... |
Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 10:03AM | I assume they're following the rules really well, and more than one designer in the same office needs to use it. |
Posted Fri Mar 2, 2007 11:32AM | I have purchase the same file but in difference resolution in some occasions. The way most designers buy stock is that, they either download a free "Comp" image for the design as a sample to layout the design or make a "comp" or "prototype", or in the case of istock, since it is so cheap to buy a low res for making a comp, and you can show them to your clients without the wateramrk, which often confuse them, many designer just buy the low res and if the client like the design, the designer come back and buy a high res of the same image.
There are times, I would buy several low res images for several options in a particular design, and the client choose one, and I go ahead and buy the high res image for the final. In traditional RM and non-Microstock RF stock, the images are expensive enough that I don't usually buy even the low res for comp, I just use the watermark free comp image, but in Microstock, it is nice to have it without the watermark, since it is only a few bucks.

One of my new ones uploaded in early Feb has sold 9 times, but three of those were within 24 hours (all X-Small, so not the same buyer). Then it tapered off to twice a week. No explanation, other than new shots show up higher in Best Search? Or maybe it's the effect of someone rating your file, pushing it up in the searches for a brief time so more people saw it within that time period? Who knows?...
Or maybe it happened on a traffic spike day here like Feb 20? Several of us had Best Day Ever on the 20th, as reported in the Feb statistics thread, and someone pointed out that Alexa shows a spike in internet traffic coming to iStockPhoto on that day.

Posted Sat Mar 3, 2007 6:22PM | I wondered about this a couple of years ago. I saw the same file get dl 5X within minutes. I surmised that it could have been a bunch of students in a classroom after doing some poking around. |
