Walked into the house, it was cold and dark. Fish tanks that should have been bubbling sitting there silently. Fed the guinea pigs, turned round, locked the door and Bailey and I came back into town. Couldn't face another long night listening to the wind in the dark. Amazing how much we rely on power for everything. For water I'm on tank supply which means that without power the header tank can't fill, so no water either. *sigh* will head home in the morning and check everything before I go to work.
Talked to the power company and they're hoping to have the power back on tomorrow, but there are thousands of households in the north with no power at present. They're doing a great job, but can't be everywhere at once. Going to work this morning it was shocking to see the damage done by the wind. Huge macrocarpa trees felled onto the roads, sheds and fences picked up and thrown on the other side of the road. We've been so lucky that nobody was killed.
