Does DM embed the Title, Description and Keywords into the jpg files?

I'm pretty sure DM doesn't touch your jpg files. It uploads them the same as you present them.

Yep, that's correct. There have been a few requests to add such a feature to DeepMeta though.

OK, thanks for all the reports and research!

I have reported the following 2 issues to iStock:

1. Download counts and royalties of credit card downloads do not show up in the API data (and hence not in DeepMeta).

2. Updates of Image info to the API only show up on the iStock site image page when sending the update twice in a row. When only sending the update once, the API does seem to register the update (a fetch back shows correct data), but doesn't seem to trigger a site page update.

Hi Franky! It's been over 20 days, any news from iStock as to what happened and whether they intend to fix it? Thanks!

I received several inspector notices about missing model releases for files uploaded with MR via DM. I wonder if the problem is somewhere on the site or in DM?

ETA: version 1.5.12 here

I am pretty sure there is a problem and I reported one to Kelvin last week. I had uploaded the photo file via DeepMeta and then uploaded the model release via the IS HTML page - but in about 6 instances the model release did not stick. The IS page confirmed it was uploaded but then I got rejections for it not being there... I figured it was something like the "you have to send file updates twice via DeepMeta" problem. I can only advise you to check the IS page and see if it still has a model release submit button live. If so, then upload again... hope this helps. Something is a little awry here...

Model releases getting lost, either after upload through the site or DeepMeta is a problem that has been occurring intermittently over the past 3 years or so. This is not a problem with DeepMeta, since it only reports an MR as uploaded after getting confirmation back from the site. I believe iStock has been looking into this at the time, but could not find the cause.

At one time, I have added a feature that allows fetching back a flag that reports whether iStock reports an MR to be present (the DM column "Has release - as reported by iStockphoto). Back then users reported getting rejections for missing MRs, even when this flag reported an MR to be present.

Thanks a lot Franky. Sounds like another one of this site's problems

I also noted that sometimes on my files page:

http://www.istockphoto.com/my_uploads.php?page=1&order=CreationDate

there was a live link to "upload model release, this file needs a release..." or something like that. I then clicked on it and uploaded and the release was successfully in the system... that occured mostly, but then 1 or 2 simply git rejected and I had to reupload the JPEG photo as well as a model release... Kelvin looked into it and passed it on to the IT people...

Hi, anyone know how to indicate SOUTH KOREA in the editorial Caption? I have tried "Korea", "South Korea" and "Republic of Korea" but always getting ERROR 4302 - Country name provided is invalid.

While Korea is a valid keyword, it's very important to discriminate North from South, as the British Olympic Committee discovered when they played the South Korean anthem for some North Korean medal winners. South Korea is also a recognised key phrase, so you should probably post this in the Editorial forum, and see if they can fix the error.

Hi Whiteay, online upload is working fine. What I am unable to do is to upload by DeepMeta, that's the reason why I have posted here.

So South Korea is accepted as a country for Editorial uploaded via the web site, but not when uploading for Editorial via DeepMeta?

As an experiment, I uploaded a file via DeepMeta as Editorial, selecting Korea as the country and naming Seoul, South Korea as the City, Country. I don't see it in the upload queue. (I'm assuming that Editorial files should appear alongside non-Editorial files in the queue).

That's correct, and was reported to me some time ago.
It is caused by the iStock API requiring countries to be specified by full name, instead of simply by ISO code.
The result is that each time iStock changes some of the country names (even slightly), you get an error for that country when uploading editorials with DeepMeta.

I have manually been through all country names and about 8 of them needed correction.

I will be releasing DeepMeta v1.6 Beta 1 soon, which will contain updated country names (except for "CuraƧao", but I'll spare you the story on that

Thanks for reporting!

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to use "find and replace" while the website is doing this "have to save edits twice" thing?

Do your searching and replacing and any other edits you need to do.
Make sure the "Changed" column is visible. If it isn't, right-click on any column heading, click Insert/Move Column->Changed.
Click on the Changed column to sort all the changed rows together.
Click on the first row with a tick in the Changed column.
Shift-click on the last row that has a tick in the Changed column - scroll down if necessary.
Right-click on any of the selected rows and choose Send file data to iStock.
Wait for it to finish sending.

I'm pleased to announce DeepMeta version 1.6 Beta 1

Attention: this is a test version! There is no need to download and use it, unless you're willing to try out new features and fixes, as well as report any issues to me. Note that the current version 1.5.12 is stable and works well.

Changes for the Windows version:

- Updated country list for Editorial (only CuraƧao not supported, due to iStock site encoding issues). Some of the countries in the Editorial drop-down box at the iStock site were renamed. The iStock API demands these exact same names, so they had to be adjusted in DeepMeta as well.

- New encrypted password system (requires v1.6b1 or higher on all involved systems) -> "Restricted access" now imposes following restrictions:
> Generating an encrypted credential is not possible
> All statistics values shown as 0
> Ratings and Stats tabs not shown
> In Windows version: at F5 no more account stats shown. (in Mac version they were not shown anyway)
More info on encrypted passwords here

- All categories now up-to-date with categories on iStock site again

- "Dollar Bin" renamed to "Value collection", conform with iStock site

- File description text is no longer trimmed (removal of leading or trainling whitespace). Some users requested this, e.g. for more control over Copy and Paste.

- More upload interval choices

- Moved to .Net 4.0 profile. More and more users installing on a new Windows install reported that .Net 2.0 (as was used by DeepMeta up to now) is no longer present. Most systems already have .Net v4.0, if not, you will be prompted to upgrade. Please report how this works for you!

- New software installer. The old one was no longer supported by our development tools.

- Data conversion from really old DeepMeta versions no longer supported:
> If you're still using DeepMeta v1.4.x or older and you upgrade to Win v1.6 b1, your local database will NOT be converted: make sure to send your local changes and uploads to iStockphoto first.
> If you're already using DeepMeta v1.5.x, then your local data will remain intact.
> Enable "fetch file data from iStock" for deactivated files as well (only implemented for the "single" fetch with right-click!).
> Fix: CreateThumbLinks did not save to disk, so if you would quit DM before sending updates to iStock, you lost these edits.
> Fix: Crash when malformed proxy address provided (non-recoverable, since it happens upon each startup!).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also note that this release does not fix any current issues resulting from iStock site problems, such as needing double updates to see results at the site and incomplete statistics. These need to be fixes by iStock on the website itself.

I have requested an update on a ticket regarding these issues, but have not received any information yet. I'll post back when/if I find out more.

Happy beta testing and let the reports come in!
