I kinda like the anticipation of refreshing the "my uploads" page (sorted by last download) and seeing whats sold, not as good but still a buzz.
But not as great as having guests in and when your computer ka-chinks you can blithely say "Oh, I just made another $100 on iStock.

Ode to instant stats:
They were here when I started, then a widget I found
And as dl's came in I knew by its sound
A beep or a song, a bloop or a ding
And all day I was happy when I heard that small ring
But then, just like that, too much traffic you say?
The website was down! For more than one day!
Cold turkey, the sweats, I was so lost with fear
For those quick-instant-stats would no longer appear
Time has passed, slowly, and things are okay
I miss them, I do, but I've found other ways
There's more to iStock then the contributor group
For sales make me more happy than a bleep or a bloop
RIP, Live Stats

Dear Live stats,
Sorry I took you for granted. I realize, now that you're gone, you were what made checking my stats so much fun. If there was any way we could forgive and forget, let's do so.
Your best friend who misses you so. Life ain't the same without ya babe.

So does Matt; but he isn't any good
Hey! I resemble that remark! |
  Posted Fri Jan 25, 2008 2:18PM | Don't be resembleful - life's too short! |
Posted Fri Jan 25, 2008 2:57PM | The live stats are fun, but honestly once-a-day updates are fine. Most stock agencies send you a monthly or quarterly statement, so daily is a big improvement. |
Posted Sat Jan 26, 2008 7:31PM | back in the good old days of live stats i set up my widget to make a ka-ching noise each time i got a download. It annoyed the hell out of my two roommates in college... ahhh brings back memories |
      Posted Sun Jan 27, 2008 8:46PM | I'll always remember. I just can't move on. |

my addition to istockpoetry.com:
there once were live stats on the site,
they made the time fly and things bright,
they were taken away,
when the website was frayed,
I cried for the whole of the night

Posted Sun Jan 27, 2008 9:51PM | I remember, this one time, live stats and I went out for beers... things got pretty crazy... Haven't seen 'em since. |

Yeah, there really hasn't been much activity around here at all lately(as far as changes/features/etc.) ... makes you wonder what is going on behind the scenes.
There was talk during the IT crisis about a complete restructure of the DB being the real answer, but they couldn't get it done quick enough. Maybe that is what they are up to now; beings they bought some time with the stats. iStock has always liked to build hype by not announcing upcoming events/features/whatever, so I doubt that we would know if they were, and it would undoubtedly be a lengthy process.

I bet there's a lot more going on that most of us realize ... only time will tell |

Absolutely. Just think about the new Corporate accounts, new contributor payout options, interfaces to other partnering sites, such as Vox and Microsoft Office artwork, probably all sorts of "backoffice" stuff to help the staff keep up with things, functionality to manage the inspections, etc.
As regular client or contributor, we only see the tip of the iceberg.
As far as I'm concerned, the iStock devel team can take the entire year off (so to speak ), with zero new features and do whatever it takes behind the scenes to rebuild the database structure from the ground up, or whatever it takes to be ready for the future.
Oops, I said "zero new features", but actually, this would have to be after the promised change with new DA defaults for searches (where all DA options should be checked initially) and a fix to the current failing Wiki system (several members have posted good suggestions in the suggestion forum). I say this because I believe both of these flaws are seriously damaging iStock at the moment. |
