Posted Wed Feb 6, 2008 4:05PM | Nice backup service... Thinking perhaps exclusives should get some sort of discount on their own images though... as a little bonus... I know having to pay 75 dollar for your collection of 500+ images isnt bad... but at the same time, they are on the iStock servers making money for iStock... |

When you lose data you will be happy to pay x-times more just to get them back...

Posted Wed Feb 6, 2008 5:24PM | Awesome. I too had a hard drive fail in the past two months and while I had iStock backed up I lost a lot of other data. Sure wish I could pay that much to recover all that I lost. Again, thanks. |

Not to sound negative (no - really), but I do have to agree with this. I mean, I can think of a stock site or two that allows their contributors to download their own images at no charge, or if they do charge a fee, it's to have your stuff backed up to a DVD and shipped to you.
I think the fees are a good idea for buyers who could have their history stored on here, and for them to be able to "re-download" those images they've bought if they have computer problems. However, I think it would be a nice gesture if the contributors who provide istock with their income would get much better pricing (if charged at all) for this service. Why not 25 backup downloads for free for contributors, with small fees, after that?

Posted Wed Feb 6, 2008 8:30PM | I agree that it would be very nice if this service was available to contributors for their own images as well. And I think the pricing is right in such a case as well.
If I would loose my complete collection I would be more than happy to pay 75$ to get it back. But I hope my own backups will do the job so I will never need it. |
Posted Wed Feb 6, 2008 8:49PM | Lets see here. We spend a bunch of money to make our portfiolio. We go exclusive. We give all of our resources and time. iStock takes the major chunk of the royalties . And if we "as exclusives" have some issues that we can't get to our files for whatever reason. For our loyalties ,we are charged $75.00. Hell of a deal ! Sorry , this one I don't like. But to each thier own. |
Posted Wed Feb 6, 2008 9:05PM | I think the cost of the DVDs and the postage should cut it, say $15 total. |

It's a good idea, and I agree that us exclusives should get some sort of deal, but also $75 isn't that horrible either. I guess the moral of the story is, if you don't like the idea, then back up your own stuff so you don't need it.
