Does anyone know if I can put my istock rejects on Flickr under CC? Seems a pity to just have them sitting on my hard drive even if they're not high enough quality.

What do you mean CC? As Exclusive you cannot license any rejects.

BTW, Sorry Ant, I had just read on of Jo's post and his name was stuck in my head

Well, this Creative Commons license appears to me to comply with 2b of the ASA, but I'm not a lawyer. I'm considering posting images to Flickr.

I'm currently doing a 5 hour render on an image that took me quite a few hours to model, being rendered at high mesh density and AA settings, with HDRI lighting. If it's rejected, as I expect it will be for poor image quality, it would be a shame not to make it available for someone to use for something vaguely useful.

^ from the Exclusive Program

Are there other restrictions?
  • Images, video or audio files may not be sold on the artist's own site (including collections, CD-ROMs, etc).
  • Artist may not give away files for free, from their own or any other site.
  • Rejected files may not be sold elsewhere

OK, I'm not planning on selling them, but the bit about giving them away for free is apropos. I guess posting to Flickr with all rights reserved is OK. The ASA says they can be displayed as art.

Although this from the ASA suggests I can give away images as long as it is only for display as art:

Notwithstanding the definition of Exclusive Content and the exclusive license granted in this Agreement, nothing shall restrict the Supplier from (i) establishing or maintaining a personal portfolio on the Internet where Exclusive Content is posted for the purposes of art display so long as you are not licensing or giving away rights to the Exclusive Content for anything other than such display;

In the current climate it would be a bit ironic if I was kicked off istock for making my rejected images available for free.

You cannot give them away for free, which is just ridiculous but we all agree.

I can display them as art though, so I'll upload to Flickr  with all rights reserved. That should do it.

I just found that my peacock shot is used as the front over of the new Photoshop Elements 11 for Photographers book smile

Good find Ant, and great photo. So, did you use Photoshop Elements 11 to process that shot?

That's the way Ant....best to focus on something positive I think.  I'm trying to ignore bad sales too (as bad as Christmas week right now) by challenging myself to shoot and upload as much as possible.  I've uploaded more this week than I had in the whole of the previous six months!

Horrible week of non-sales here. Very Christmas-like.

I wanted to post a shot I just had accepted. I haven't done any studio work for a long time, lack of motivation mostly. Sometimes I just need to take pictures though, it's what I do. I seriously didn't think this would get in, it was not easy to do and I expect that it is on the verge of what is acceptable here, a bit too artistic and abstract. But I really like it. Very yellow.

Nice work Jonathan. Must admit I had to check the image detail page to see what it was.

Me too. I had to check too, although I could see they were cod liver oil capsules.  Fantastic detail and it looks great!

Thank you!!! I love that you had to check to see what it was! That's like the opposite of what I have to do for my real job which is to make things look exactly the way they are, or better!
