Susan I did try another site when the first grumblings appeared here. I had the same experience of rejections for big best sellers and decided life was too short.  Staying with iStock/Getty unless they go under. Laziness maybe but even with the poor week i am still up on last year for Feb and may even be double by the end of the month ($s as that's what counts!).

Best of luck Susan. Keep us posted.

Just looking back on my somewhat dismal sales this year and noticed I had actually picked up an EL on January 31st. Been pretty distracted with house construction so didn't notice the $115 bump in my balance. What's interesting is that when you look at the details, it no longer tells you how much they paid. Just the following:

Extended License: Request Options For Factory Automation

[li]Multi-Seat (unlimited)[/li]
[li]Unlimited Reproduction / Print Runs[/li]

Yes, experienced the same, Dan. PITA actually, but now you just need to check under the EL category to see how many credits they paid.

Jean, a bit strange, I sold an Agency also, twice actually in 2 days. That thing never sells, so I found it odd. Though welcome.

February isn't a complete train wreck thanks to larger files selling, definitely worse than last year though. We'll see how second half goes. Strange patterns of good days and bad days. Can't figure it. I know that my RC/sale number is way up there, close to 17. I wish I knew what that meant and could make money off of it.

Partner, I like your attitude. It sounds pretty bleak, but keep after it. Rewards will come. (I hope )

Susan, other opportunties will come - you mentioned prints to me, but I think your work is really suited to exhibitions and Arts Centres, and community projects. Cardiff probably has more than Newport - go be arty! The Big Issue sometimes advertises for artists for projects.

Susan, one of my favorite websites for artistic inspiration is thisiscollosal.com. The blogger-owner curates the most interesting art. Much of it is so out there creatively and originally - work that I've never seen anything like before.

It's interesting reading people's thoughts and experiences on going indie, because I've given it a little thought recently.  Not much thought, I have to say, but some.  I keep coming back to  the same conclusion though, that I really don't need all the extra hassle.  Like Jonathan, I have found that February has started to pick up (until yesterday, which was dismal) although nothing like last February.  I'm hanging on to the belief that what goes around comes around, and things will pick up again eventually.  iStock earnings are part of my income, not just pocket money, so I couldn't afford to take the hit of going indie anyway.  I think the crunch for me though would come if I didn't make silver again this year.  So far I'm falling quite a bit short on predicted RCs

?^ditti for me for Gold RC's  for people who are trying to stick it out, iStock might need to reconsider their RC targets for this year.

thanks for the link Pink and Jean i hear you, ideas have started flowing and i been practising some new processing skills....... i sincerely hope you all reach your RCs i am so relieved that i dont have to stress the RCs again. I like stability even if i am at the bottom.

Hey Jean i did try out the Big Stopper and the hard grad 0.6 ND filter on my trip, got that nice misty water thing going, only had an hour to fiddle, and i had to count the seconds in my head, wont make stock but at long last i tried it out.

Good for you, susan. I've definitely made use of the grads but have yet to use my screw-on Big Stopper - haven't been to the river/waterfall. When I've had the camera it's been to shoot snow/dog in panorama ... Al isn't the only one who shoots his dog When the snow melted it was incredibly muddy and this field STINKS! (so does the car now)

I think I'm renaming this month Pantsuary.  It's been miserable.  I did back up all the pictures in my port that I wanted, by downloading them from here.  While doing that I noticed the site likes to kick you off downloads every so often.  I don't if it does that for buyers as well, but it was a huge PITA.

Just to clarify, I haven't shot my dog! He may occasional look like he is in front of a firing squad but he is still alive and just spent the last 2 hours asleep on my knee.

I'll have another datapoint for you re exc/indie in a few weeks. For me it's just business - 10/12 of my latest uploads were rejected and I think I have a better chance elsewhere. You can't sell what the buyers can't see.

About the issue of good sellers being rejected elsewhere, it is also possible that files that were rejected here may be accepted elsewhere so don't just upload files that were accepted by istock.

I've read that shallow DOF is not appreciated elsewhere - or as my husband says, 'You want those blurry bits?'

I just uploaded a video of the cat in rem sleep this week.  Its been sitting there since 2011 waiting for uploading.  The DOF is very shallow, since it is a closeup of her face twitching away and eyes rolling about.  They may not like the DOF.

Take a look at the top lcd on your 5d mk2 Susan.  When in bulb mode, it should count the seconds for you.
