Posted Wed Nov 5, 2008 11:03AM | So, I'm gearing up for a change. Due to reception in my backwoods location the only carrier I can go with is Nextel. I've had a Motorola i860 for a couple of years and it has been great. However, I want something for email, text and web. Anyone have any suggestions? Palm? Crackberry? |

This one can do all the above and also scan for hot lifeforms for you to nail.

    Posted Wed Nov 5, 2008 11:19AM | Tricorder ... of course! |

What's your style? If you want to look all super Mr. Business, then Blackberry is the way to go. My SIL won't go near anything else for his business. They come in pink, too
I'm not sure if Qualcomm is in on the new technology, but you might ask around about the new dual-mode chipsets scheduled to come out in '09. If you're planning on buying something new, you can just about bet some staggering new technology will be released two weeks after you've forked over your money.
Good luck. |

Unfortunately ATT is out for me, though I did consider getting a Touch. |

Get an Itouch for music and put you portfolio on there as well. It will look spectacular on there and clients will go
ga ga over it.

Posted Wed Nov 5, 2008 1:18PM | I like my Blackberry Curve, of course I really want an Iphone, but I am locked in a contract with T-Mobile for another year. It does all you said you were wanting and it is really easy to use. I have the boring titanium color. |

Call steve Jobbs and tell him you want an iphone but their stupid restrictive contract works against them.
I have an iphone 3g and it really works well for email and internet although it is not the best phone, possiblly the best way for you would be a touch plus a reliable simple nokia phone. My old Nokia phones had icredible battery life.

I have just had the same need. A phone with email, web etc. I looked into the blackberry option, pda phones etc. I didn't really want an iphone, I didn't want to follow the crowd. But I ended up getting a 16gb 3g one as it was cheaper and on my prefered network. It is really good too. I mean really good, loads of handy touches and easy to use. It is worth changing networks for.

But he has no service other than Nexel, Blackberry was good for text based stuff, also keys too small for my fat fingers and failing eyes. |

Really? I thought the iPhone couldn't even handle flash?
I'm currently looking for a replacement to my excellent Sony Ericsson K810i. I need something do do internet & email, but all the handsets seem to be pretty crippled in some way. |
Posted Wed Nov 5, 2008 4:19PM | Will someone PLEASE fix it so we can type in paragraphs again. This is driving me nuts. |
Posted Wed Nov 5, 2008 4:21PM | It seems like it's getting worse too. I'm going blind. |
Posted Wed Nov 5, 2008 4:21PM | i saw advertised in chinatown in nyc a contract-free 3g iphone for $850 so you can use any simcard it's dubious though, so i'm waiting for an official announcement from apple of contract-free 3g (they DID hint of a $700 price tag for such a thing when the phone came out) |
Posted Wed Nov 5, 2008 4:29PM | Is the thing actually that expensive if it's not subsidized by a plan? My laptop didn't even cost $850 |
