All I did was tweak the levels a bit, maybe a bit o'contrast as well. That's it. Swear. This got rejected for lighting, artifacting, overfiltering, chromatic aberration, pixel discoloration, a sensor spot, no center of focus, AND not-for-stock for the [{chimney crop}] -- the inspector provided a crop of the missing part of the smoke stack. For crying out loud, I used the "rule-of-thirds" and the smoke stack needed to be cut. It's right there in the photographer's training manual. It should have been shorter. That's not my fault. This is very frustrating.

If all this isn't enough, and to add insult to injury, I'm told to provide a model release for a [{dude in the background}] whom I can't even see! I figure he should be easy to clone out, just gotta locate him. I'm hoping you eagle eyes out there can help.

Anyhoo, it's a Can Resubmit, like the last two times (I've been a few rounds with this one), so your helpful suggestions are certainly needed and welcome, as always. Third time's a charm, right? Can I save it?

Click for full size.

Thanks.
Mike

/This photo has something really really wrong with it. Sorry to be blunt. But there is a lens flare right in the middle - that or its the sensor spot or a really big raindrop. You can see it on the edge of the dark building how there's some white ghosting spreading onto it. The pixel discolouration might be on the windows on the dark building - there's something very strange going on there. The smoke stack colours seem surreal and oversaturated. The sky, while not brilliant white, still seem blown out. The smoke stack is the main attention attracting part of the image, but the whole thing isn't included. The white building is blown out.

As for the model release, I can't see anyone anywhere. This is not some kind of April Fool's Rejection is it?

ETA - this has got to be an April Fool's joke... doesn't it? If it's not suitable as stock, why would it have a resubmit? hrmmmmmmm...

BTW, I know that you understand iStock standards, so I'll take this as being an april fools thing as well.

And this part is great : " the inspector provided a crop of the missing part of the smoke stack"

Edited to fix link.

Nice, Mike, nice.

My favorite part: "It should have been shorter. That's not my fault."

The whole thing does look overfiltered and the focus is soft, but it just isn't well composed without the top of that stack. It looks like a palm tree going off into nowhere or something. I don't think it's a joke.

I think you misunderstood the rule of thirds Mike... you are supposed to only leave 1/3, not chop away 1/3.

Edited to fix the last 1/3 bit... since id written 2/3s ... which obviously would be redundant... and confusing

Oh, wow, yeah... it is April 1st, huh? What a coincidence.

@Beano: Thank YOU!
@Sasa: You found him... perfect
@Sean: You're absolutely right. More people should help me sort this one out.

Sasa found the missing "dude." I thought he might have been on the top of the stack, but when the inspector provided a crop of the missing part of the smoke stack he wasn't in it.

What about the top portion of the stack?

You're not just going to leave it hanging are you??

Now that it's been approved, maybe iStock will buy it and use it in their next "how not to...." article

That will be sold as a separate photo for anyone that wants the whole picture.
