DeepMeta (Mac OS X) - Manage your portfolio

With all this discussion of no views any longer I wanted to have a look at how mine behaved over a period. Like everyone elses they are next to non exxisting these days.


With the help of the date range slider and using 1 month I tried out a few different months but the results don't seem credible. I had my fist DL in July 2007 but when I put the slider to 6/2007 I get the result 10619 views which seems highly unlikely, according to the file count for the same period I had 20 files. Download count is 58 which is also highly unlikely (one DL in July, 2 in Aug, 108 for the full year). Am I doing something wrong?

Those DM stats don't show you how your files behaved in that period. They tell you how files which were uploaded in that period have behaved over all time.

What you're looking for would certainly be more useful, but iStock don't make that kind of data readily available unfortunately.

Thank you, a good explanation. Guess I should be happy that the few images I uploaded early got so many views but must say I would be more happy with views on my newly uploaded.

I got feedback from iStock developers that they will be pushing a fix for some of the incorrect download/royalty reporting (where dollar sales were not reported). Looking forward to this.

ATTENTION:

I have just found out that any messages that were sent to me through the DeepMeta website "Contact form", between nov 14, 2012 and jan 12, 2013 did not reach me. This was due to a technical issue with the site.

I'm very sorry if I have missed any support queries of that period (and I surely have).
I make it a point to reply to all messages and forum posts, so this is a big issue to me.

I usually go online to edit the keywords, i guess that is manually doing a DA, and would like an entry in the DM page indicating which images I have manually DA'd and those i haven't worked on. Is this already in DM somewhere, DA column doesn't seem to do that, or can it be added in some future version?

The DA column isn't very useful anymore. It dates from when iStock introduced the Controlled Vocabulary (where you have to select which terms apply to a tag). I think all files are currently marked as DA'd (DisAmbiguated).

If you use DeepMeta and also edit keywords on the site, you'll have to make sure you keep both in sync. That would be a "Fetch ALL from iStock" in DeepMeta, to bring the changed keywords into DeepMeta.

Hmmmm.....I notice that online, keywords often have additional meanings or depth than appears in DeepMeta. Is this an illusion in the sense that a searcher using those deeper keywords would still find my images even though I haven't included those KWs?

You're correct. At the iStock site, you get a list of more specialized terms, which can be interesting.
Unfortunately, DeepMeta cannot provide such a list, since this info is not available from the API (the iStock servers used by DeepMeta to communicate with iStock).

I got a wind that the order of keywords is important for BM placement. Yet, I think, DeepMeta orders them alphabetically. Am I correct or am I totally off here?


Is there a way to control the order of keywords?

Trying to upload, I find that DeepMeta keeps quitting, or giving me the following message so that I need to quit manually:


Fatal Error

Input contains invalid character at 281 : 

Quit program

I'm afraid I don't have any insight in BM placement.
There's no way to control the order of keywords, although this is something on the wish list.

OK, I got your email as well, I'll respond you there and will post back here if it's something that might affect others as well.

Franky - thank you so much for all your hard work on my problem. Having trimmed down the description, I managed to upload a trial image and gradually introduced more of the planned description and links to see which bit was causing the problem. I narrowed it down to one sentence though I have no idea what was wrong with it!

ETA As we now know, Franky, it seems to have been caused by a bit of copy-and-paste text in the description which had retained some formatting from the Photoshop release document from which I took it.

I have a strange problem. The keyword "Lego" when added in deepmeta does not appear in the image keywords when the file is on istock. Any Ideas? or am I doing something wrong? Cheers

Just tried this on one of my files, and the keyword appeared on both the edit page at the site as well as the view page:

lego English (U.S.) X Lego (Named Toy Manufacturer)

Could you try again, just to make sure?
Please check both the edit and the view page for the image at the iStock site.
My Input language in DeepMeta was "US English", what was it for you?

Lost MRs


I have had a couple of occasions in the last week where iStock appears to have lost the MR, am I the only one. I have 1,5,12 on OS 10.8

iStock has been having some technical problems the past few days. That might explain things. See this message.

Hey Franky. Just wondering if you ever managed to look at the code for putting the nice graphs in, like on the PC version?
It would save me loading up Parallels just to check my graphs.
