ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ... ZZZZzzzzz... ZZzzzz... BBBRRRIIiiinggggg!!! Wha??!!! Huh??? What the he...? Where am I? Gee, try to take a short nap and I snap awake in a Thai food market with a hula lady on an ice highway. And my guide is a woman with what appears to be cabbage on her head? Or wait, is that? Huh? Why does that airline hostess constantly flying back and forth between New Jersey and Florida have a...I don't know why...but apparently she has a body guard?? Carrying full doggie bowls? And look over there! Is that Willie Nelson as a little boy? Why is he playing a fiddle on a haystack? Near a woman holding a bottle clamped with...dentures??!!! Chasing a gingerbread man with a cheese knife...?? Holy Smoke!! And what IS that huge murky treasure map with the dark red lettering and an arrow pointing to a foreboding spot - but a spot without the X marking the treasure? And why is this place so noisy..... snirt...snifpp... snort....snoreeeeeeeeeeee....zzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Nah. Musta still been dreaming. That didn't look like any place I've ever woken up before...

I chose to not start a new race based on a variety of reasons

I'm Kevin. Just cruised in to make silver last week and have been enjoying our wee community in the RACE TO SILVER thread. I'm looking forward to what's in store here.


I live with my wife and three sons in Chiang Mai, Thailand (we're from New Zealand originally.) I work in photography and video mainly for missions and aid organisations.


My youngest son Isaac is also a contributor, who sold his first image recently - it's one he shot of me

Nice, if we gonna have theme changes every month and subtheme changes everyweek, it looks like a challenge.


I work in photography too, move alot, recently live in Indonesia, Bali is my most favourite place to stay, hopefully can get back there when the crisis is end and more project there.


nice city to live in Kevin, Chiang Mai, visited there once with my mentor several years ago.

I'm Iain and I'm based in the Highlands of Scotland. I worked as a graphic designer for 12 years (in the public sector) until 5 years ago when I left to set up as a freelance photographer. Still top up the photography with a little bit of freelance design work. I love working from home and living where I do, with my wife and 2 sons.


 

Thanks Dawn for all the hard work.  My name is Ryerson and I live in the Canadian Arctic in the beautiful city of Yellowknife (nearly 24 hours of daylight right now).  I am a retired studio/event photographer newish to stock.

My name is Michael (hard to guess from my nickname...) and I've been living in Switzerland for the last 16 years after growing up in Germany.


I'm working in IT strategy, after having studied business administration, working as a programmer, having run an own company and having been a restaurant manager for some years, I think it's quite logical that my secondary income is from photography now. Well, so much about my well-planned professional career.


Considering the drop in daily downloads I've seen over the last six months, I think it's a good time to base my growth on that value. Hopefully I can recover a bit in the second half of the year and get back to more pleasant numbers.

I'm going through my best spell of downloads since joining which is great, but perhaps for me not the best time to base my growth on!

Uh oh, I'm at 17,484, does that disqualify me? I really want to participate!


Oh, yea, almost forgot!  I'm Nina, I live in Memphis with my husband and daughter/model.  I'm a full time iStocker, mom, wife, cook, maid, chauffer, you get the idea.  I plan on really upping my uploads during the race, as I sort of let that part slide the last few months.  Hopefully that will help me a little more in this race!  Nice to meet everyone!

I go by Jenni, unless you are really mad at me, then you call me Jennifer I wish I was a full time photographer, but I do have to support myself and my kids with a regular income and benefits, so I pretend to be a Business Manager during the day, but probably spend way too much time checking my stats and the forums here. I live in Wisconsin.

Michael - yeah, our plans certainly haven't gone as intended What I've found for our design business is that photography has allowed us to offer more to our clients.


So, about me: I live in Portland, Oregon. I own a small graphic design and marketing firm, specializing in Real Estate marketing - mostly for individual agents. (good timing, huh?) My husband works with me and shoots with me. I'm doing stock photography right now, as a way to make ends meet, and for the future too. Plus, it's a great escape from dealing with clients. When our boy graduates highschool (he'll be in 10th grade next year) we plan to move to Europe (initially), live in a van and travel and shoot. I hope we get the chance to meet you all some day!

Hi Dawn, all this daylight can mess you up at first.  Waking at 3am with the sun in your eyes, your first thought is "Damn!  I over slept!"  After a few weeks you get used to it.  Winter is for studio setups as you then get loads of dark.  Your gold and diamond logo would be good for our city, which was founded on gold mining and now is the diamond capitol of North America producing 12% of the worlds diamonds, and not a blood diamond among them.

And really nice banner - I always be surprised with people who have design capability as I am bad at that - Really nice!

Sure count me in for the race to diamond. Although I got a ways to go...


 


ETA:  My real name is Dan, and I currently live in Calgary, Alberta.  I make my living as a helicopter pilot and part-time photographer.. Or maybe it was the other way around.  Sometimes I'm not sure.
