7.3 - Model releases

All logo designs where an identifiable human is present will require a model release. There are no exceptions. This includes designs based on photography or sketches of people as well as based off of a real-life model. In some cases a release may be required even if the face is not identifiable (for more information please read this article: iStockphoto Photography Standards Part 3: Model Releases. Where someone, other than the model him or herself, could recognize the person, you should get a model release —— regardless of how much or how little of that person is shown.

If the logo design depicts a minor (a child under the age of 18), a model release must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

If the logo design depicts the artist (a self portrait), a model release is still required.

A model release must be uploaded with each file. If you're uploading successive designs based on the same model, the model release should be uploaded with each submission.

A valid model, witness and artist's signature must appear on the model release. Note: iStock does not accept digitally created or digitally signed model releases (this includes using script fonts as signatures, e-signatures and scanning signatures and then pasting into the model release). For more information on completing the model release, please read this article for more information please read this article: iStockphoto Photography Standards Part 3: Model Releases.
