Description

These dead drone bees have been thrown out of the nest by the worker bees in early spring, which is very unusual, rather than towards end of summer, as is normal. This may be because they are heavily infested with varroa mites - a very serious affliction of honeybees in Europe and North America. Two mites can be seen clearly on the base of the left wing of the top left hand drone and another one on the abdomen of the lower one.
