Description
The African or Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is one of the hunter's most feared and respected of opponents. Buffalo have an unpredictable mixture of the desire to run together as a group, and the desire to turn on their attackers and chase them while hooking with their wicked horns. When it comes to fight or flight, they stand right in the middle of the see-saw. While a buffalo may become the prey of a lion pride, they have also been known to seek out lions and attack the whole pride. killing cubs while doing so. An experienced lion knows when to run, and one of those times is when a ton of bovine fury comes rampaging. This particular buffalo was wallowing in mud, with others, in the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya, East Africa. As this photo was taken, our game guide insisted that it was time to leave.
