Description
The 8 Base Post Office was set up by the British Royal Engineers at Gold Beach, as part of the Normandy Landings. This envelope was posted on 5th August of that year. The post office was set up on 16th June in a barn which had to be cleared of manure and straw before it could become operational. It was later removed to Brussels where it remained for the rest of WW2.
