Santa Clara, Villa Clara Province, Cuba - February 3, 2007: Bas-relief on the great monumental complex in Plaza de la Revolution, depicting scenes of the Santa Clara battle, in 1958. The Memorial was designed by Jorge Cao Campos and made by the sculptor José Delarra and was opened in 1988 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Santa Clara.
Santa Clara is the Cuban city that more than any other is associated with the Revolution. Here happened the last battle, at the end of 1958. Groups of rebels, led by Ernesto Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, attacked and defeated the troops of dictator Fulgencio Batista, who fled from Cuba after a few hours. It was the victory of the Cuban Revolution.
