Black turban snails, Tegula funebralis, exposed at low tide. The black outer layer sometimes wears off the shell exposing mother of pearl underneath. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve (San Mateo County), Moss Beach, California. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is considered one of the best tide pool areas on the US west coast. Part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
