Description
An old weathered 17th century symbolic gravestone featuring the crown and hammer symbols of the Hammerman's Guild. The guild embraced all crafts which used a hammer on metal and incorporated Armourers, Pewterers, Glovers, Saddlers, Watchmakers, Gunsmiths, Coppersmiths and Silversmiths. This gravestone is likely to be a memorial to a blacksmith because of the pincers shown either side of the hammer. Symbolic gravestones and memorials are uniquely common to both the north of England and Scotland (particularly the lowlands and Scottish Borders), and most are of 17th Century origin. A subtle HDR image with a ProPhoto RGB profile for maximum color fidelity and gamut.
