At the end of World War II, the Chief of Naval Operations, Chester W. Nimitz, ordered the formation of a flight demonstration team to keep the public interested in Naval Aviation. The Blue Angels performed their first flight demonstration less than a year later in June 1946. Since 1946, Blue Angels have performed for more than 463 million fans. Blue Angels are world famous demonstration squadron currently flying Boeing F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet. Blue Angels are currently the oldest formal flying aerobatic team. The mission of the Blue Angels is to enhance Navy recruiting, and credibly represent Navy and Marine Corps aviation to the United States and its Armed Forces to America and other countries as international ambassadors of good will.
