Description
Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber airplane was an American heavy bomber used in World War II by several Allied air forces and navies, and by every branch of the American armed forces during the war, attaining a distinguished war record. It was characterized by its high efficiency airfoil twin tail design. It was nicknamed Flying Boxcar and the Flying Coffin, and was built around a central bomb bay with two compartments that could accommodate up to 8,000 pounds of ordnance each. It carried several .50 caliber M2 Browning machine guns - one of them pictured here in the side fuselage. Cottonwood, Arizona, 2011.
