Description
Appearing out of the dark, a Buddhist ritual mask, carved in wood and painted, used for dance on festivals and Tsechus.
Religious objects, paintings and statues are in the public domain. Bhutanese art is anonymous, religious and as a result it has no aesthetic function by itself. A Bhutanese does not view a painting or a statue as a work of art but as a religious work. art work is not signed, art work has no copyright. This is all well explained in Françoise Pommaret’s “Bhutan, Himalayan Mountain Kingdom” edited by Odyssey Books & guides.
