Description
Located South of Arles Commune, along the 'Conservatoire du littoral' (Coastal Conservatory) spreads on 702 hectares. It is out of the influence of the sea wall protecting most of the Camargue land from the sea water and the Rhône Delta. It witnesses the original ecosystem of Low Camargue. The wet zone hosts numerous birds, fishes, vegetal species as well as Camargue horses & bulls. Salin de Giraud and the domain of 'La Palissade' are part of the Parc Naturel Régional de Camargue. Officially established as a regional park and nature reserve in 1970, it covers 820 km² that are some of the wildest and most protected in all of Europe. A roadside museum provides background on flora, fauna, and the history of the area.
