A method to avoid releasing carbon dioxide gas (CO2) into the atmosphere is using the process of Carbon capture and storage (CCS) or carbon capture and sequestration (also CCS). In this process waste carbon dioxide from large sources like fossil fuel power plants or chemical plants is captured and stored, for example in exhausted underground natural gas fields.
