Description
Beautiful frescoes of Johann Michael Rottmayr on the ceiling of the abbey church in the Melk Abbey. The abbey was first founded by the Benedictine monks in 1089, but its sumptuous Baroque style dates back to 1736 when were created the abbey church and the impressive library with countless medieval manuscripts. The Melk Abbey is the most important monastic site in Austria and in the world, and is located on a rocky outcrop overlooking the river Danube in the Wachau valley, in Lower Austria region.
