London, England - August 25, 2008: A rack of brightly coloured Wellington boots outside a shoe shop in London. The Wellington boot is named after Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, who wore boots of leather and hessian. Modern Wellingtons (also known as water boots, rubber boots, wellies, gumboots and many other nicknames) are usually made of rubber or PVC and tend to be far more colourful than anything 'Old Nosey' would have recognised.
