Description
Corn or Flanders poppy flowers growing on a bank alongside a sports ground. The banking acts as a barrier between the sports ground and a road, and it also encourages the growth of wild flowers such as wild mignonette, kidney vetch and – poppies.

In south-east England, corn poppies Papaver rhoeas are said to be on the increase, indicating increasing disturbance of the ground due to building and other human activities. The common corn poppy is distinguished from the long-headed poppy by its deeper colour, purple anthers and dark centre.
