Description

The unique Celtic crucifix above the altar in the founder's chapel of in the National Shrine of Immaculate conception is flanked by a procession of Irish saints (Gaelic names): Comgall, Jarlath, Finian, Ciaran, Patrick, Aidan, Columcille, Colman, Gall, and Brendan.
The founder of the shrine, Bishop Shahan, the visionary and promoter of the project in its early stages, remained actively involved in the construction of the Shrine until his death on March 9, 1932. He is the only person interred in the Shrine.
This work is very probable from shortly afer his death.
