Gaiole in Chianti, Italy - October 7, 2012: riders at the L'Eroica vintage bike event cycle along Tuscan country roads keeping up their good spirits after many miles on old road bikes. The name L'Eroica literally means "the heroic". It is one of Italy's most beloved bike happenings (no contest or time trialling) with more than 5.000 participants from all over the world.
The period cycle event L'Eroica takes place in the province of Siena (Tuscany) each year in October. L'Eroica is open to all levels of riders, but only bikes made prior to 1987 can enter.
Cyclists also dress in appropriate costumes such as wool jerseys, leather shoes, small peak caps from the golden era of cycling. Most of the course is made up of crushed gravel tracks in the Chianti valley around Siena.
