Portsmouth, England - October 29, 2012: A derelict pub on The Hard, Portsmouth, England. The pub is called The Ship Leopard after a Royal Navy ship of the line. The Hard in Portsmouth is probably thus named because of its slipways which would enable boats to enter the harbour. In the 19th century, The Hard was nicknamed Devils Acre because of the disreputable activities which went on there and around the turn of the 20th century, there were 13 pubs along it. There are very few pubs left there and The Ship Leopard is one of the most recent casualties.
