Description
"A moody and dramatic night scene of Durham Cathedral in the fog. The Cathedral is renowned as a masterpiece of Romanesque (or Norman) architecture. It was begun in 1093 and largely completed within 40 years. The Cathedral is built on a strategic peninsula of land created by a loop in the River Wear and its west end towers over a precipitous gorge. The Old Fulling Mill next to a weir on the river, dates mostly from the 15th Century and played a key part of Durham's cloth-making industry. Image taken on a damp winters night with the buildings looming out of the fog. The neon lights form part of the City's annual 'Luminere' exhibition, held for four days in November.
