Inle Lake, Myanmar - February 22, 2011: A fisherman gathering weeds from the deeper parts of the lake, to make floating garden beds. The constant avaliability of nutrient loaded water makes these floating gardens very fertile for cultivation. Inle lake is a freshwater lake located in the Shan Hills and is the second largest lake in Myanmar. It houses 20 species of snails and 9 species of fish, found nowhere else in the world. People living in and on the banks of the lake are mainly Buddhists and live in simple wooden and woven bamboo houses standing on stilts. Most of them are largely self sufficient farmers.
