Vienna, Austria - June 5,2013: Flood disaster at the Danube and Danube Island (german Donauinsel), an extensive public recreation area of Vienna.

The Donauinsel (Danube Island) is a long, narrow island, between the Danube river and the parallel excavated channel Neue Donau (New Danube).
The main purpose of the island however is to be part of Vienna's highly sophisticated flood protection system.
Such a flood occurs only once every 100 years.
