Spores of the fungus Pestalotiopsis as seen with phase contrast optics, each spore is about 15 microns long. Phase contrast is a high contrast optical system that makes colorless objects visible without staining, but it does result in some blown highlights. These spores are almost invisible under normal bright-field illumination.
