Amsterdam, the Netherlands – February 1, 2013: Dutch newspapers in a newsstand with in the centre the future King and Queen of the Netherlands. Left in the picture Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima on the right. After the coronation on April 30, 2013 they become King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. On Monday evening January 28, 2013 Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands announced on national television and radio that she is abdicating in favour of her son, Crown-Prince Willem-Alexander. After 33 years on the throne following her mother's abdication in 1980, Beatrix said she would relinquish the crown on April 30, 2013. Queen Beatrix took the throne over from her mother, Juliana, who took the place of Queen Wilhelmina. Prince Willem Alexander will break the mold of feminine rule dating back to 1890 when, Emma, queen regent, temporarily held the throne until the coming of age of her then-10-year-old daughter Wilhelmina.
