Description
Green Lizards are common in the Slovak Karst in Eastern Slovakia, just outside of the city of Kosice. Typically found in and around dense bushy vegetation with good exposure to sun. These lizards come out to bask in the sun, especially in the morning and evening close to their burrows, or crevices in the limestone that is common in the Kosice Karst area, where they can take refuge if threatened. They can be particularly colourful when breeding. Lizards of the family Lacertidae are believed to be reservoir hosts of the Borrelia lusitaniae bacteria spread by the Ixodes ricinus species of tick. This particular lizard has shed it's tail, probably to escape from a predator. Lizards that can drop their tail have fracture planes spaced regularly down the length of the tail.
