This black nose longhorn cow is acting as the herd greeter. The herd’s calves are marketed as natural grass fed beef in todays food market. Natural beef means no fly treatment that most cows are offered. The tight focus of this shot shows several identifiable flies stealing moister from the cow’s nostrils and eyes. Longhorns have battled flies since the Spanish brought them to the new world. They are thought to have originated in Africa and brought to Spain by the Moors. Longhorn accompanied the Spainish on the ships bound for the New World as a source of meat.
