Description

This is a picture of houses dangerously close to the ocean shot from the air. You can see ocean in the late afternoon light on a warm sunny day coming very close to beach homes. The waves seem calm on this fall day. Sand bags are clearly visible in an attempt to keep the ocean at bay, some buried in the sand. This is the north end of Figure Eight Island, North Carolina. You can see an inlet in the top of this image. This image was shot on Halloween Day, 2010. It clearly shows beach erosion on a thin line of sand on this fragile island.
